Hello Whip Industries fans. The Whip Industries website is going to be updated a lot more regularly with some cool new segments and more of the old. So check the website as often as you can and tell your friends.
I have been asked to write a bit of a blog every couple of weeks to keep every one updated on what I have been up to. I'm really excited about some of the things whip industries has planned and the opportunities they are giving me. With that said here is my first blog.
I'm writing this as I'm on my way to Albury / Wodonga for round 6 of the MX Nationals. I received a phone call during the week saying there was a spot for me in the pro lites class. I jumped at the opportunity and am really excited as well as fairly nervous about being on the same track as the best guys in Australia. I'm going in with a bit of a cold and hopefully ill get over this cough by the time racing starts tomorrow. Mainly I'm hoping to just enjoy myself and survive the 3 x 20minute motos.
As far as minibikes go I signed my 2010 summer contract with Whip Industries in April. I received my KLX110L about 2 months ago. It took some time to get the suspension sorted as it was a complete new task to set up the bike compared to my old CRF50. The bike will keep getting better the more it gets ridden but I'm happy to say its to a point where I feel comfortable. With a couple of trail rides organised by Hayd I have managed to clock up just over 10 hours on the hour meter to date.
When I first received the bike I just rode tracks as much as I could. I didn’t even hit a ramp. I'm glad I did because you really learn to throw a bike around this way. Especially when you have someone like Trav to race with. I’d like to say how much the bigger bike suits Trav’s style. I'm going to predict that his improvement in the future will be massive. He is already doing decent double nacs and I'm still getting a feel for a nac.
We then had two shows fast approaching. The red light ride and Echuca steam rally. So it was time to get real and make sure I could do what I had to do to ride a show. The show jump was set up at the whip industries compound which happens to be my back yard. I had two chances to ride the jump before the red light ride. On the second ride the plan was to use the foam pit to make sure I could flip the new bigger bike. That was not the case thanks to Jake Spooner. Who just come out and flipped it followed by Kyle Webber and Trav. So I ended up just going for it but all turned out well. The new bigger bike is actually a bit easier to flip. Mainly because you have a bit more time in the air and a bigger wheel base.
All my focus has been on big bikes for the last couple of months. As I have been racing my WBR motorcycles KX250F in the Vic titles and select rounds of the northern regions. I have a few races left then it is time to get stuck into mini bike mode and I cant wait. We have an exciting calendar for 2010 which I'm believed is to be released soon.
I'm looking forward to spending time with the team on tour. It’s a heap of fun heading off with your buddies to ride in front of crowds and we all get along awesome. Ill be aiming to push my riding to new places as I feel so much more is possible now on a bigger bike. There is a couple of tricks on my mind but I'm not going to spill the beans until it becomes a bit more then just a thought in my head.
I think the next minibikes show for me is up near Sydney on the 4th of august. So I cant wait for that. So until then ill be racing my big bike and starting to slowly put in more and more practice to make sure I'm ready.
Thanks for taking the time to read my first column hope I didn’t drag on too much. I look forward to making it a regular thing. Enjoy life and get out on your bike as much as you can. I know with this weather and the moist dirt I will be.
